Prelude Dark Pain Maya
Owl-masked hunter — blinds enemies, knocks them back, and controls space with her bird companion.
Who is Maya?
Maya is a Blue Nets archer recognizable by her owl mask and animal companion. Previews portray her as a ranged DPS and control specialist who blinds foes to reduce accuracy, knocks enemies back with powerful shots, and uses her owl to harass multiple targets across the grid.
She is often the second DPS slot in Act 1 after Soren or a damage-built Tizon.
Role and strengths
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Faction | Blue Nets |
| Role | Ranged DPS / debuffer |
| Companion | Owl — poke and mark targets |
| Key status | Blind |
| Best partners | Tammais for aggro, Soren for bleed |
Maya solves accuracy wars. Blinded enemies miss more often, which protects your front line and lets melee heroes flank safely.
Active skills (four slots)
- Owl strike — commands her bird to attack a distant target, applying a mark or small damage that sets up follow-up shots.
- Blinding arrow — applies blind to reduce enemy hit chance. Core debuff for boss fights and ranged duels.
- Scatter volley — fires a wide cone of arrows hitting grouped enemies. Excellent when Tammais clusters foes with taunt.
- Sky knockback — high-impact shot that knocks back a target several tiles. Pairs with cliffs, Tizon’s traps, or Gala’s barrels.
Swap scatter volley for single-target focus on spread-out elite encounters.
Passive abilities
- Predator’s eye — increases damage against blinded or marked enemies; synergizes with her own debuffs and Soren’s bleed.
- Companion bond — owl attacks cost fewer battle points or trigger bonus effects when Maya attacks the same target the same turn.
Virtues and dual build branches
Hunter branch — emphasizes single-target burst, crit chance, and owl finishers. Best for boss DPS checks.
Warden branch — widens debuff duration, cone width, and team utility — occasional team accuracy buffs or enemy expose effects that increase all party damage.
Virtues reward multi-target hits — bonus points when scatter volley strikes three foes or when a blinded enemy misses an attack.
Squad synergies
Classic Blue Nets core: Tammais taunts, Maya blinds and cones, Urza sustains, Rufio or Soren cleans up melee.
Knockback chains: Maya sky knockback → enemy lands on Tizon bear trap → Soren bleeds stationary target.
Sade’s zone denial keeps enemies inside Maya’s cone. Avoid stacking too many ranged heroes without frontline — Maya still needs Tammais or Rayder.
Recommended build direction
Debuff focus: Warden branch, blind + owl always equipped, attributes split between precision and utility.
Burst focus: Hunter branch, scatter volley on mob fights, single-target rotation on elites. Compare DPS against tier list notes.

Positioning and battle point economy
Maya wants elevated or rear tiles with clear cones into taunted packs. Spend one battle point on owl strike to mark before scatter volley when you need guaranteed multi-hit value. Blinding arrow should land before enemy ranged turns — priority targets are enemy marksmen and casters focusing Urza or Tizon.
Defend actions are rarely worth it on Maya; instead, use knockback to create space. On moving vehicle encounters featured in Act 1 previews, sky knockback can delete pursuers outright — one of Maya’s highest-skill-ceiling plays.
When to bench Maya
Heavy magic-resist enemy groups may favor Gala or Urza damage types. Extremely narrow indoor maps with no line of sight reduce cone value — bring Rayder or melee instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does blind stack with bleed?
They are separate statuses. Blind reduces accuracy; bleed enables Soren's bonus damage — together they make melee turns much safer.
Can the owl attack independently?
Owl strike acts as a separate action from Maya's bow skills. Use it to finish low targets or apply marks before your main attack.
Is scatter volley worth one battle point?
Yes on grouped mobs after taunt. On single-boss fights, swap to blinding arrow and hunter finishers.
How strong is Maya in Early Access?
Maya is a top-tier control DPS for Act 1 — blind and cone damage scale well through the first act. Full rankings on the [hero tier list](/tier-list/hero-rankings/).
